Edge

Surreal the moment
I am dreaming
As the wind howels
And tempts me toward
The crumbling edge
This black night
This lukewarm wind
Numbing like the dream
I am in
Peering over the edge
Far below
As if an eternity away
Taunts the openness
And solidity
Of the ground beneath
As though I have but
To release
To feel its permanence
The uncertainty
Of my step
The vertigo
Of my gaze
My arms open
I look upward
And vertigo engulfs me
And the wind carries me
Sweeping upward
Consuming me
